Are you having problems with installing USB devices?

You have installed it as per the instructions?

You have tried to install or reinstall the driver and each time it comes up with the error ”Installation failed because function driver not specified'”

Is there a yellow exclamation mark against the device in “My Computer”, “Device Manager”?

I was trying to install a pen/tablet on a windows 2000 pc and it just wouldn’t run.

The light on the tablet flashed all the time.

With the assistance of a very knowledgeable technician at Epson who was supposed to be helping me with printer font issues, we have managed to fix the problem.

The problem turned out to be that windows had chosen the wrong inf file to load. In my case it chose the Win98 version.

The steps are this:

Step 1

Open device manager and right-click the offending device, (no errors in this picture)

Select properties.

Step 2

Click the Driver tab

Click update driver or reinstall.

Step 3

Check “search for a suitable driver”, click next

Step 4

Uncheck all the boxes, click next

Step 5

Have a look at the results and note the location and name of the “inf” file.

Step 6

Open Explorer and locate and cut & paste the offending file to the desktop.

If you cant find it then you may have to change Explorers’ default security settings. Please click here

Step 7

Close the driver wizard and restart from step 1. Go to step 4.

Step 8

Check the Specify a location box.

Click Next

Step 9

Select browse to the correct “inf” file on the driver disk to suite your operating system.

Click OK.

The driver should install correctly..

Go back to step one and check that the yellow exclamation mark is no longer showing..
